Study association Aureus

For the first time, we as study association Aureus may contribute to this magazine, and of course we’re happy to do so. For some, the name Aureus may ring a bell from your own student days. Since 1948, Aureus has been committed to supporting students in their academic, professional and personal development. I would like to take you through some of the highlights from the past six months. From international projects to impressive career events, once again, we saw a wide variety of activities.

Amsterdam Career Days

From 3 to 7 March, we organised the Amsterdam Career Days, a five-day career event where we proudly welcomed 2,000 students and over 90 companies. The event was put together by a team of eight ambitious students from Aureus and Sefa (University of Amsterdam). Over the course of the week, students took part in around 150 activities, ranging from presentations and case studies to networking cruises and wine tastings. We pulled out all the stops to help students explore potential career paths and connect with interesting employers.

We’re pleased with the positive feedback we’ve received from students. The event was not only an opportunity for them to explore career opportunities but above all a platform for making valuable connections.

Preparations for the 2026 edition are already well underway. A new committee is working hard to make the next edition a success once again. We're very much looking forward to connecting many students with companies again next year.

Amsterdam Research Project

At the beginning of April, a group of 20 students travelled to Indonesia to complete field research for the various companies they were working with.

The Amsterdam Research Project is an initiative by VU Amsterdam and Aureus, in which master’s students from the School of Business and Economics travel the world to conduct research for leading companies across a range of sectors. Each year, the focus is on a different country, and this year it is Indonesia. Over the course of five weeks, students conduct intensive research in various locations throughout the country. In doing so, they not only generate valuable insights for the companies involved but also further develop their own academic and professional skills in an international context.

In addition to the field research, the students also took time to get to know the country. For example, they visited the Dutch embassy, met local residents and explored various sights.

The students are now back in the Netherlands where they are completing their reports and presenting the findings to the companies.

Looking back and looking ahead

The end of this academic year is in sight. Over the past year, the committee members once again showed great commitment in organising various events. In addition to the major projects such as the Amsterdam Career Days and the Amsterdam Research P

roject, they organised numerous sports activities, socials, training sessions and workshops for students. The board has also worked on optimising our data use, improving our data systems, and further developing the services we offer to our members. Together we have ensured that the association has taken another step forward.

For our board, it is now almost time to hand over the baton to a new group, who will again enthusiastically devote themselves to Aureus in the coming year. In the next edition of this magazine, my successor will update you on the start of the new academic year and share their highlights so far!
